The Covid-19 situation has significantly increased the use of teleconferencing in many companies across almost all countries. Industry experts in general agree that this trend is going to stay on long after the virus is brought under the control. As companies start to understand that a lot of work can still get done without being physically in a room or building with other team members, employers are expected to be more willing than ever to hire internationally in order to take advantage of cheaper labor costs and gain access to talents with special expertise that may be hard to come by locally.

As a consequence, learning and mastering the English language has become important not just for children but also for working adults who may want to make themselves eligible for remote employment opportunities offered by hiring companies based in English speaking countries.
It is never too late to learn a new language, but the methods of learning between children and adults will differ significantly. The advantage for adult learners is that they can freely explore various options, many of which are self-paced. The disadvantage however, is that without strong motivation the learner is not likely to get far.

Motivated students can take advantage of various language learning mobile applications and other electronic resources that offer products such as module-based courses, examination preparation tools, recorded webinars or click through courses. The learner should make a conscious effort to build confidence in using both formal and informal versions of the English language.

It must be noted that the education industry has dramatically evolved over the past few months. In addition to language lessons and training, you can now find extensive resources and tools to aid with examination preparation offered through websites and mobile applications. While in the past it may have only been commercially attractive to offer such platforms and tools for examinations that are undertaken globally, today you can find a wide variety of resources even for examinations that are country or state specific. For example, you can find HiSET test prep resources online easily.

When learning or trying to master the language, students should aim to create as immersive an environment as possible. This means exposing themselves to the language in as many different mediums and as possible such as reading newspapers, watching television shows, enjoying comics, talking with friends, reading subtitles for shows, reading magazines and even learning songs.

It is important for learners to attempt to use the language in realistic settings such as in conversations in stores with sales people they do not know, sending text messages, reading road signs and directions and maybe even switching out the operating language of their mobile phone.

By periodically testing their knowledge through various online tests and applications, students can also gauge their performance and improve their confidence in the language. This confidence will help them articulate ideas during interviews and convince potential employers that they are able to communicate effectively in a corporate environment.
Non-native speakers of the English language may struggle to gain native levels of fluency. However, they should not deny themselves opportunities because of this. Most employers do understand that English is not the primary language used in every country and hence have reasonable expectations. Employees themselves will be able to improve on their language competencies during the job during interactions with English speaking colleagues from all over the world.

Conclusion
Fortunately, the English language is relatively easy to master since it is non-tonal and is built on a simple alphabet with easy (mostly!) to understand rules. Since the language is widely spoken across the world, it is easy to get a hold of a wide range of learning resources for every level. As the global economy develops further into an economy where employers no longer see borders as barriers, individuals should upskill themselves in order to be ready to take on new opportunities in far away lands, all without leaving the comfort of their homes!
