This is a short story about planning a birthday surprise for Mommy!

The big day was coming, but Sally and her father had not planned anything for Mommy Sarah yet! A few days before her mother’s birthday, Sally woke up and realized that there was very little time left before the big day arrived, so she rushed to tell her dad. “Dad, Dad,” Sally said, “There is very little time left before Mom’s birthday and I do not know what we can give her as a gift! ”
“Me neither, my little girl. Today I woke up and saw the calendar and I suddenly realized that it is coming soon. I have nothing planned but I would like this year’s birthday to be special for her,” said Sam, Sarah’s father. As you can see, Sally and her father had both nearly forgotten all about Mommy Sarah’s birthday! When Mommy Sarah went to work at the farm, Sally and Sam sat at the table to think about what to do while they ate their breakfast of cereal and milk.
“Mmm I do not know what to do!” said Sally.
“Mmm me neither,” said Sam.
“I know! I’m going to write a song for her and then we’ll play it with your band, Dad. How about that?”
“I really like your idea, little girl but I’ve already written many songs for your mother. You have to do something different.”
“I know what we will do. We will ask the animals on the farm to sing with us too,” said Sally.
“That seems like a good idea,” said Sam. So they decided to visit Mommy Sarah at the farm to talk to the animals. Sam distracted her while Sally approached the animals there. First, she approached the dogs. “Woof, wooof-woof, woof” Sally said to the dogs, which meant: “Can you sing a song with me on my Mom’s birthday?”
“Woof!” was what the ten dogs answered, which in their language meant “Of course, but we want cake too!”
“Woof, woof,” said Sally, which in the language of dogs meant: “Of course, I’ll give you cake!” After talking to the dogs, Sally approached the cats. They were drinking warm milk and playing with balls of wool. “Meow-meow, meow-meow, meow,” Sally said, which in cat language meant “can you sing a song with me on my Mom’s birthday?”
“Meow-meow” answered the cats, which in their language meant: “Only if you give us a lot of warm milk with cake!”
“Meow,” said Sally, which meant: “Of course, I will.” But the most complicated thing of all was talking to Juan the parrot because Juan was very noisy. Mommy Sarah could understand when Juan spoke. Sally had to approach him very carefully and tell him not to speak out loud. “Juan,” Sally whispered as she approached. “Do not shout please, It’s my Mom’s birthday soon, I want to sing her a birthday song. Can you sing it with me?”
“Of course,” Juan said quietly, “the parrot Juan will help you for sure.” Sally was very happy because the animals had agreed to help her. Writing the short song was simple. She just sat down to think about her Mom and wrote:
“My mom is the best in the universe
that’s why I sing this verse
the most important thing is to say
happy, happy, happy birthday
happy, happy, happy birthday
happy, happy, happy birthday
to you”
The song was finally ready. When the long-awaited day arrived, they got up very early to go to the farm to practice with the band and the animals. Mommy Sarah never imagined that she would find them on the farm when she got there. When Mommy Sarah arrived at the farm, they sang the song they had written. The song was sung by Sam, Sally and all the animals. It sounded like this:
“My mom is the best in the universe
Meow, Meow! Woof, Woof!
That’s why I sing this verse
Meow! Woof!
The most important thing is to say
Meow! Meow! Meow! Woof! Woof! Woof!
Happy, happy, happy birthday
Me-Me-Meow! Wo-Wo-Woof!
Happy, happy, happy birthday
Me-Me-Meow! Wo-Wo-Woof!
Happy, happy, happy birthday
Me-Me-Meow! Wo-Wo-Woof!
to you
Meeeeeoooooww! Woooooooof!
The dogs ate the cake. The cats drank milk and ate the cake. Juan the parrot had fun. Sam’s band played and Sally gave her Mom a present wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper. On that day, Mommy Sarah was the happiest woman in the world. Who would not be, after receiving such a wonderful birthday surprise?
