Many people in the world have extreme fears of specific things. If there is no logical reason to fear something, this fear is called a phobia. Although phobias are usually harmless by themselves, the effects of these phobias could be dangerous. For example, ablutophobia is a fear of bathing or washing. Someone with this phobia will avoid cleaning himself or herself. This could lead to skin infections and poor hygiene. Somniphobia is the fear of falling asleep. People with this fear may always need to take medication to fall asleep and may go to extreme lengths to stay awake for as long as possible. This makes them a danger to themselves and others around them if they operate heavy machinery or drive. Heliophobia is the fear of the sun and a person with this fear may stay indoor all the time, even during emergencies.
