The Internet is actually a very large network of connected computers. Nobody owns the Internet. It is nearly impossible to shut down the Internet. The Internet was invented sometime in the 1960s, but it was only made accessible to the public sometime in the 1990s. There are more than a billion websites on the Internet. The first website to have ever been created is still online. Not everything that is on the Internet can be found through search engines. Sometimes, websites are sometimes intentionally prevented from appearing on search engine results and some of these are used to commit crimes like buying and selling illegal drugs or pets.
